It’s that time of the year where the one friend out of your group who has a car absolutely hates. They officially have the duty of driving around in the sun on constant road trips to wherever the various destinations may be whilst feeling awkward asking for petrol money. We here at Unfold feel your pain mystery hero, so we have devised the top ten driving songs in order to make that drive a little bit sweeter. Here is our list of guaranteed attention grabbing songs that will either entice the opposite sex or make a long stressful journey not as EXHAUSTing (See what I did there?)
1. Cornershop – Brimful of Asha
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM7H0ooV_o8
I’m still not exactly sure what a ‘brimful of asha’ exactly is and why it is on the 45 but you cannot deny the magnitude of this tune! All you air guitarists out there, pluck away.
2. Stereophonics – Dakota
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUHjDJxkcSE
Would be a crime not to have a bit of Stereophonics on the driving list. How cool do you have to be to pull off a gap tooth? The answer is of course fucking very.
3. Proclaimers – 500 Miles
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbNlMtqrYS0
What this duo lacked in looks, they definitely made up for in their one-hit wonder abilities. Can you imagine anything better than driving shouting DARH-DAHDAH (Notice the correct spelling of darh-dahdah)
4. ATB – Till I Come
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY81QFir2sw
Everyone knows this legendary tune. You can’t help but feel that Spanish guitar riff. Try to keep your hands on the wheel despite how tempting pretending to play might be.
5. Beach Boys – Wouldn’t It Be Nice
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L–cqAI3IUI
Everyone loves this song. Yes, even you. The manliest of men all have to give in, sing at the top of their voice and do a bit of an arm sway. We are not here to judge…
6. Bruce Springsteen – Born to Run
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxuThNgl3YA
Every time I hear this song I become so instantly inspired to fulfil all my wildest dreams, go on 5 mile runs and help those less fortunate than me but then logic takes over and I realise that would require a lot of something called ‘hard work’.
7. Smashmouth – Walking on The Sun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuVrTNoyz80
WARNING! This song comes with a disclaimer; it makes people who have no rhythm think they have it. Be prepared to dance in a way you never have and possibly get laughed at.
8. Tom Jones – Sex Bomb
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KUJE2xs-RE
I think everyone has a guilty pleasure listening to Tom Jones. Absolutely everyone knows the lyrics to this song, I am fully convinced. Plus, is there any better pulling technique than a car full of people singing this song at a red light to innocent bystanders? I think not. 60% of the time it works every time.
9. Lou Bega – Mambo No.5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK_LN3XEcnw
Yes, that’s right, it’s Mambo No.5. I have definitely influenced you to listen to this song ALL day today as you reminisce. Not only are there trumpets, which are a must for any serious drives but if you can remember the lyrics, prepare yourself for the best 4 minutes ever in a car. They don’t make music like this anymore; perhaps there is a good reason why.
10. Tracy Chapman – Fast Car
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Orv_F2HV4gk
THIS SONG NEEDS NO EXPLANATION!
Next time you are driving around aimlessly make sure you have this mix at your disposal and you can thank us in beer one day.
P.S AVOID THIS
